During Election times candidates should be able to tell things like they really are, voters also need to be able to receive both the good and the bad about the state of our nations affairs. I like what G.K. Chesterton said; “Sorrow and pessimism are by their natures opposite: sorrow rests upn the value of something; pessimism on the value of nothing.“ It’s easy to withdraw from participating in the election process when we dwell on pessimism. True sorrow is the only thing that can truly procuce the kinds of remedies we are looking for, as we give leadership to this great nation of Canada. The media produce pessimism more often than not, by their exclusion of the real causes that should produce sorrow, that we are not living life so often in a way that honors our Creator.

It surely looks like a spirit of confusion has descended upon Parliament Hill these days. With the Conservative Government on the edge of the abyss and the opposition ‘coalition’ foaming at the mouth in a mad grasp for power one wonders if the time of judgement for Canada is at hand. Judgement from the hand of the Lord for ignoring his Sovereignty. His love for the fate of the helpless aborted unborn children, his value on the state of traditional marriage, which has be defiled with ungodly substitutes.
When will the people of Canada come to moral clarity on their rejection of God’s oversight over our land? When again, will we acknowledge that He truly does reign in this dominion from sea to sea?

I head yesterday from a friend that an author has released a new book which claims that ethanol can be made from crops of seaweed in the ocean. There would be no need to waste human crop foods such as corn, on an expensive and costly conversion. This makes more sense that driving up corn prices worldwide with artificial government subsidies.

Romans 12:2 “Do Not Conform any longer
to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing
and perfect Will.”
See Larry’s Election Campaign site to see chart of last three elections showing the Conservatives large majorities in the riding and how a significant calling out of 7,000 for the CHP could dramatically change how
social conservative values are regarded in the government party.

It is quite apparent that many people who signed my nomination papers in the past few days, are looking for better solutions that what Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been supplying. Several were distressed that Stephen as their Member of Parliament was seldom seen in the riding year round, save for an expensive ticketed Stampede BBQ in July. The old townhall meetings that use to be held on a regular basis by former Reform MP Preston Manning are now a thing of the past. If they have been happening, where are the public notices. And I cannot remember the last time I received a mailer of my Member of Parliament with anything beyond a Christmas greeting. Apparently, direct exposure of Stephen Harper to his own constituents in a puble setting is avoided like the pox by those who handle his image projection.
This does not fit any traditiona conception of what a member of Parliament is supposed to do locally, and rather reminds me of the ‘man behind the machine’ who does want to be seen in public – but relies on carefully crafted media exposure to prescreen whatever bits happen to float down to his own voters.
Yes, there will be the obligatorycampaign rally near the last few days that will combine all Conservative Party supporters and Candidates in Calgary in one room. Hardly the venue where Stephen Harper’s own constituents can question him one on one with other contituents hearing the response. Alas, that seems to be a thing of the past – and with Stephen mostly certainly not willing to attend any candidates forums in the riding, the bulk of all such oppoortunites will not be scheduled in Caglary Southwest.
Would not a reversal of such a policy qualify for an timely episode of ‘Canadian Fear Factor?’

I am currently reading through the novel of Sir Walter Scott entitled, “Old Mortality.” The character Henry Morton ( Son of a military Scottish Covenanter ), has some interesting lines in Chapter 22. pp. 232-33. ( Speaking of the fallen Royalist soldier Bothwell….and his own self…)
“ Alas! what are we,” said Morton,”that our best and most praiseworthy feelings can be thus debased and depraved – - that honourable pride can sink into haughty and desperate indifference for general opinion, and the sorrow of blighted affection inhabit the same bosom which license, revenge, and rapine have chosen for their citadel?
But it is the same throughout; the liberal principles of one man sink into cold and unfeeling indifference, the religious zeal of another hurries him into frantic and savage enthusiasm. Our resolutions, our passions, are like the waves of the sea, and, without the aid of Him who formed the human breast, we cannot say to its tides,’Thus far shall ye come, and no farther.’”
And in conversation with Burley, the Covenanter General,
” To me young man,” answered Burley, “and to those who think as I do, the pleasures of this world, under whatever name disguised, are vanity, as its grandeur and power are a snare. We have but one object on earth, and that is to build up the Temple of the Lord.”
” I have heard my father observe,” replied Morton, “that many who assumed power in the name of Heaven, were as severe in its exercise, and as unwilling to part from it, as if they had been solely moved by the motives of worldly ambition. – but of this, another time.”
These are good reflections for anyone going into public service in the realm of government. They speak to both sides of the fence – that no one has the luxury of ignoring the Sovereignty of God, and the fallen inclinations of the human condition. Only the grace of God, received in humility, can make the best of what is possible in this world. – Larry Heather
